Breakthrough with new research approaches

Our development team has made a research breakthrough enabling high-quality translations to be improved even further. Our neural networks are now capable of surveying the overall context of a text segment and generating a coherent suggestion on that basis.
In a blind test, 123 documents from various domains were compared. The automatic assessment revealed that the new systems did better than their previous counterparts in every language combination. Translations from English to German in particular saw a significant leap in quality. The automatic evaluation is performed using the COMET metric.

Improvements have been made across severeal areas, as the following examples show. The algorithms are better equipped to recognise expressions and their related words. This results in fluid and easy-to-understand translations, as their context is better preserved.
The ability to analyse a text in a broader context, delivering more nuanced translations that are better suited to the relevant sentence or paragraph, represents a real milestone.

Improved recognition of non-translatables – words and expressions which should not be translated – is another development worth noting. Textshuttle is capable of identifying those words and preserving them in the text.

In addition, coreferences are better identified. A coreference describes the relationship between two parts of a text that refer to the same object (e.g. the noun in the first sentence and the subject in the sentence that follows). Our models can go even further: they can recognise, for instance, that the subject of the second sentence is referenced in the first sentence and add it to the translation.

Moreover, Textshuttle offers more consistent translations across the entire text. This is crucial to ensure that style, tone, and terminology are maintained throughout, producing a reliable result.
